Your list of free SEO tools can start with the following free services provided by search engines themselves. (We will be creating separate pages for each tool.)

1. Google External Keyword Tool (no registration required)

This free SEO tool is a stand alone module that’s will give one an idea of a keyword’s search popularity on Google. It is very easy to use and gives you a great start off for defining your targeted keywords.

2. Google Webmaster Tools (Google account)

This services is another great free SEO tool for webmasters and bloggers. By using this tool one will be able keep track of multiple websites, by finding out keywords these sites were indexed for, average position and impression frequency, keyword density, link popularity of individual pages, etc. I recommend everybody to take a look at and register for this free tool. 3. Yahoo Site Explorer (no registration required, Yahoo account for more stats)

This tool can be used for competition analysis (number of pages per domain, link popularity). It’s a very basic service, comparing to other free search engine optimization tools. You will get more functionality if you have a Yahoo account.

4. Alexa Search (no registration required)

When it comes to free SEO tools to research your competition Alexa search is one of the simplest and quite accurate tools you will find. Just enter your competitors’ domain names into their search box, click Search and see their keyword and visit stats, derive your initial search term ideas.

5. Quantcast (no registration required)

http://www.quantcast.com/

This tool will help you to define your competition by presenting related sites that share keywords and demographics. You can also see estimated history of their web traffic, although it doesn’t seem to be accurate.
